Sudden voices stirred a large kitten from her sleep. Picking her head up she tried to make something out of the shapes she saw from the many small holes in the box, but all she could see was bright light occasionally blotted out by a shadowy figure. The house-folk outside of the box buzzed with excitement and dishes clattered about. The kitten sighed and rested her chin back onto her paws, ears drooping somewhat. She tried counting the strands of fabric poking up from the soft, fluffy towel she was on to ease her mind but she couldn’t help but think about what her mother said last night.
“Don’t worry, Nalia. You’ll be going to a lovely, warm, home with lots of good food.” The rumble in her mother’s quiet voice was usually calming, but tonight it did nothing to ease her kit’s concerns.
“But why does Ashlyn get to stay with you?” Nalia cried out.
